Interviews

Over the past five years,  I have had the amazing privilege of being interviewed for my perspective son a variety of issues across a variety of media outlets.  This includes ABC and SBS, commercial news networks,  right through to community radio and podcasts.  The below photo was captured during my interview on ABC News to discuss Earth Overshoot Day on behalf of Sustainable Population Australia in 2019.  The interviewers were a little uncomfortable with some of my uneasy truths on the environmental predicament and I’ve built a little bit of a reputation of being the ‘bearer of bad news’ that ‘people don’t want to hear’ to the media.  Conversely, I have had enjoyed some amazing and warm discussions on community radio and podcasts.

Below is an interview I did with Sky News on December 2020:  “Unsustainable population growth’ is threatening Australia’s future.

I was interview by Neil Mitchell on 3AW to respond to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex who had recently received an award from Population Matter in June 2021 for publicly stopping at two children

For more refined tastes, I was interviewed by Jon Faine on “The Conversation Hour: Big Melbourne - population talkback forum” in 2018. Click below to listen.

I believe community radio is every bit as important as the mainstream media and deserves a much wider audience than it gets.   One example is Melbourne’s City Limits program on 3CR,  where I was interviewed on overdevelopment issues on behalf of resident activist group Planning Backlash. Following inspiration at the New Economy Network Australia (NENA) conference: ‘Life After Capitalism’, my colleague Rod Taylor started a new podcast series ‘Fuzzy Logic Scienece Show.’ Each short 10 minute episode features a guest presenter on a specific sustainability issue. I was kindly invited to present on the topic, ‘Growth and the Parasistic Economy’

In terms of longer interviews,  I was very honoured to be a guest on the Inspired Evolution podcast.  In “Michael Bayliss on Post-Growth: How To Start Making an Impact in a Growth Based Capitalist Society” – I have big deep and meaningful with host Amrit Sandhu on everything from degrowth to spirituality.  It can be seen on YouTube below:

Over the past couple of years, I have continued to contribute as a guest on a variety of podcasts, both home and abroad.    For Australia’s ‘YourLifeChoices’ journal,  I was invited on their podcast for their episode “Time to rethink big Australia?”   In the USA, I have been a recent guest for ‘The Steady State Podcast’ and ‘This Sustainable Life:  Solve for Nature” podcasts.

I have also been extensively interviewed over the years on community radio stations around my music with Shock Octopus.
